Consumerizing Cloud Management

In the future, a single company will dominate and control the cloud management ecosystem. This company will gain dominance by shifting its focus from feature-packed products so complicated that customers require PSO, and move to understanding the users needs and wants. By changing focus to users' needs this company will be able to reinvent the cloud management ecosystem, effectively commoditizing services, and driving the competition into the position of a silent partner. This system will be successful by overcoming the core challenges impacting the user’s life and build out from there.

Task based cloud management overview

IT admins tend to be project and task focused, often judged the project success as well as the number of tasks they can complete in a given time period. The problem is that it is often the one off firefighting tasks consume the majority admins time, leaving little to no time, and keeping them from moving their projects forward.  Admins need a better / faster way to process and prioritize what needs to be done, shortening the time consumed by firefighting, allowing more time to work on the projects that meet the needs of the business.

Calendar based datacenter monitoring

Troubleshooting starts asking one question and continues until all are answered

Who is in trouble
Dashboards, environment, scoreboard answer this question
What is wrong
Details, all metrics try to answer this question
Why did it go wrong
Events tries to answer this question but falls short
How did it happen
Events tries to answer this question but falls short. Logs to hard to weed through to answer this question easily
When did the problem happen
No good answer to this today

Event details contains snapshot of relevant details
Trend graphs for each type of workload showing the trend for duration of event
Trend graph of anomalies for the duration of the event
List of faults just before and during the event
List of log entries for the object starting just before the event and just before the end of the event.
Is it reoccurring?
Who else is involved

Looking forward on my calendar I ask

Is something coming up?
How long will it last
Who is involved
How often will it happen

When is a good time for a project?
Are others involved free
